Bud, Not Buddy

This was a really sweet story that seemed to tackle a number of social issues: race, the Great Depression, family...you name it! The main character, Bud, is a hoot! I loved his "Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life and Making a Better Liar Out of Yourself." I also love the way that he talks! It's a great story.
Next up: Holes

The Tale of Despereaux

...being the story of a mouse, a princess, some soup, and a spool of thread. This was such a great book! I really can't wait to see the movie because I liked the book so much. It's a great story of an unlikely (mouse) hero. I always like the stories where the underdog wins - especially when animals are the main characters!

The Westing Game

I just finished The Westing Game. I thought that it was a really clever story! The mystery definitely kept me going throughout. And, in the end, everything finally came together. It was definitely a good read.

Next, I'm starting The Tale of Despereaux (because I haven't seen the movie yet - and I want to read it before I see it)

The Newberry Medal

I do like to read any kind of book, but I want it to be clean. I decided that one good place to start, would be by reading the Newberry Medal books. Some I've already read:
  • The Wheel On the School
  • The Witch of Blackbird Pond
  • The Bronze Bow
  • A Wrinkle in Time
  • Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
  • Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
  • Bridge to Terabithia
  • The Hero and the Crown
  • Sarah, Plain and Tall
  • The Whipping Boy
  • Number the Stars
  • The Giver
  • Walk Two Moons
  • Crispin: The Cross of Lead
  • The Graveyard Book

(I must admit, I may have to re-read some of these. Some, it's been a long time since I've read it and others, it's just because I loved them so much!)

I just started reading The Westing Game. We'll see how it goes.

The Bookblogger

I'm a reader! I love to read - and I'm no book snob. I like to read anything. I decided that I should blog about what I read, as I read. If that means a simple list, an in depth "review," or something in between, here we go:
